Wood Frog

Continuing my naturalist certification program and we’ve moved on to study of terrestrial ecosystems.  Herpetology comes later in the program, but last week’s field trip did turn up some interesting amphibians.  This is a picture of a Wood Frog (Rana sylvatica).  I’ve seen their egg clusters in ponds many times, but never came face to face with the egg layer.  It’s a tiny thing, not much bigger than the thumb that’s holding it.
